To ensure everyone's safety, everyone on the range is required to adhere to the following range safety rules.
- Treat every weapon as if it is loaded. This is the most important rule of all.
- Every shooter is required to familiarize him-/herself with these rules before using the range.
- Every shooter is required to present him-/herself to the range officer for registration prior to entering the range.
- Use of the range without a range officer present is strictly prohibited.
- Do not enter or use the range when the red warning lights are on.
- To minimize damage to the range, rapid fire is prohibited. Rapid fire is defined as two or more shots within an interval of two seconds or less between shots. An exemption is made for Service Pistol training and competitions organized by Prins Hendrik.
- If necessary, the range officer will appoint lanes on a first come, first serve basis.
- A training session may take up to 45 minutes. The range officer can extend this if circumstances allow.
- Commands issued by the range officer or any other functionary of the range must be obeyed immediately and without question or discussion.
- Large caliber rifles may only be fired on section B (lanes 6 through 10).
- When shooting a semi-automatic weapon, if there’s a lane on the discharge side of your weapon you are required to either mount a shell catcher or use a lane screen.
- When the range officer calls “VAST VUREN”, all shooters must cease fire as quickly as possible and unload their weapon. The red warning lights will be turned on. After unloading, put down the weapon pointing downrange and with an open breech, take at least two steps back, and await further instructions.
- When anyone calls “STOP STOP STOP”, all shooters must cease fire immediately, put down the weapon pointing downrange, take at least two steps back, and await further instructions. This is an emergency command that anyone on the range is authorized to issue whenever there is a potential for a dangerous situation.
- Handling, loading, and firing weapons may only be resumed after express approval by the range officer and after the red warning lights have been turned off.
- Do not ever leave the firing line with a weapon that has a closed action.
- It is strictly prohibited to take aim at anything other than the shooting target, even if you have personally ensured that the weapon is unloaded.
- Any weapon on the firing line, firearm or not, must be pointed downrange at the backstop at all times.
- It is prohibited to pick up or in any way handle a weapon that does not belong to you without prior and express consent of the owner.
- Keep a safe distance from any shooter; respect their personal space.
- All weapons must be transported to and from the firing stand in a safe manner: rifles must be pointed upwards at the ceiling, pistols pointed at the floor. In both cases your finger must be conspicuously away from the trigger.
- During transportation to and from the firing stand, firearms must have a chamber flag. Air rifles or pistols must either have a chamber flag or a safety wire that protrudes visibly from both sides of the barrel.
- No one other than the range officer may disturb a shooter during a session.
- At the end of a session, the shooter must discharge the weapon before taking it away from the firing stand.
- Firing stands are to be left in an orderly state. Any spent cases and used targets must be properly disposed of, and the target holder must be stored in the racks on the wall.
- The shooter will inform the range officer whenever a malfunction or defect is discovered with anything that belongs to the facility, such as a weapon, the firing stand, the target transport system, or the electronic shot evaluation system.
- Failure to comply with these rules and/or ignoring commands issued by a functionary of the range may lead to your removal from the range and other disciplinary actions.
